Why I hate カタカナ!

TED have done it again with another fantastic video presentation. This one is by a woman who has been teaching English in the Middle East for 30 years, and how she laments the loss of languages around the world with everyone possessed with learning English.

It makes me worry for the Japanese language when everything is in Katakana these days.
Do you know the Japanese word for spoon? (and I don't mean スプーン)

Just my thoughts. If you do want to learn English though (as it is of course very important), try a free month at Vocab Voyage. The subjects for May are: Hanyu Yuzuru, Why Japan needs more babies, and Tokyo building to prevent disasters.

Check it all out below.

If you take a free trial of Vocab Voyage, this is what you'll get:

-     the vocab lists for the month (English and Japanese, in same order as the                             YouTube clip)
-     the article the words came from. (again in the same order)
-     a test on the 15th of the month (same as the Questions I put up everyday, but all the             subject questions  at once)
-     answers to the test, and the vocab definitions of the three 'incorrect' words in                         English and Japanese
-     you can go on the private Facebook forum, or contact me directly with any questions

1 subject ¥400, all three subjects ¥990 (if you decide to continue after your absolutely free trial)
