Good morning. Back to the Ukraine today. It's all turned nasty there again. There has been amissile attack in Mariupol. Thirty people dead. No good. If you remember, you've got the
Ukraine; and now you've got Donetsk want to be there own republic. Ukraine says, 'No,
you're staying with us!'. Russia are kind of backing the separatists from Donetsk. Last week
there were eight people killed in an attack in Donetsk, and at that stage the leader of that
country (or area of Ukraine) said, 'Ceasefire's over. It's all done. We're going to take back
our land!'. So now there's been this bomb in Mariupol. The rebel spokesman - the rebels are the separatists from Donetsk - the rebel spokesman said the missile was fired in error by the Ukraine so it's their fault. However, human rights activists, they have examined the craters, and they have said that looking at the craters they can deduct that the missiles came from
rebel territory. Remember back when the Malaysian plane was .... Evidence kind of showed
that what bought down the Malaysian flight was a missile from a BUK missile system fired by the separatists, supplied by Russia. However, Russia says that the Malaysian flight was
brought down by a Ukrainian fighter jet. So it's all 'he says, she says'.
Obama is not happy. Obama is not happy at all. Obama says Russia needs to pull it's head
in. 'I am .going to ratchet up the pressure'. Put more pressure on Russia. Of course Russia
denies supplying anything to the separatists, but Kiev and the West say they've got
irrefutable proof that Russia has been supplying. Whole big disaster this thing. 5000 dead so far. Obama's getting annoyed. He says we don't want war, but come on guys. Sort
Finally, Natalie Jaresko - the new Finance Minister of Ukraine - she's got a job ahead of her. There's a $15 billion gap in the nation's public finances. The war - the carry on with the
separatists - is costing the country $10 million a day. The Finance Minister,
Natalie, she's meeting the IMF (International Monetary Fund) as we speak, and she's trying
to put forward a case to get some emergency funds to stop their economy from falling over. She says she wants cash up front to pay off the debtors (I made a mistake, that should be
creditors, Ukraine is the debtor), and she makes a sales pitch to them that Ukraine is a good investment. Low labour costs, close to the E.U. (European Union), but it's fairly obvious that
they have to get rid of that pesky war situation going on.
Thank you. That's it for today. Have a good day.
